Workshops and Programs

At Protea OT, we offer practical, neuroaffirming workshops and programs designed to support parents, educators, and communities in understanding children’s sensory, emotional regulation, and developmental needs. Facilitated by experienced Occupational Therapy professionals, our sessions provide practical strategies to support children at home, school, and in the community, with a focus on participation, wellbeing, confidence, and inclusion. Workshops are available online or in person and can be tailored to suit families, schools, and organisations.

Parent Workshop: Understanding Your Child’s Sensory Preferences

Format: 3-session workshop series (online or in-person)
Duration: 60 minutes per session
Audience: Parents and caregivers of children with sensory processing differences, developmental delay, autism, ADHD, or emotional regulation challenges.

This workshop series is designed to help parents better understand sensory processing and how it impacts their child’s emotions, behaviour, learning, participation, and daily routines. The sessions are practical, supportive, and interactive, with a strong focus on real-life strategies families can use immediately at home, in the community, and at school.

Parents will:

  • Develop an understanding of sensory integration and sensory processing

  • Learn how sensory preferences influence behaviour, attention, emotions, and participation

  • Identify both their own and their child’s sensory preferences and regulation needs

  • Build confidence in supporting emotional regulation and participation in daily activities

  • Learn practical sensory strategies that can be embedded naturally into routines

  • Gain tools to advocate for their child across home, school, and community settings

Teacher Workshop: Supporting Regulation & Sensory Needs in the Classroom

Format: 2-session professional learning series (online or in-person)
Duration: 60 minutes per session
Audience: Teachers, learning support staff, SLSOs, early childhood educators, and school wellbeing staff
 

This workshop series is designed to help educators better understand the connection between sensory processing, emotional regulation, behaviour, attention, and participation within the classroom environment. The workshops provide practical, neuroaffirming strategies that can be embedded into everyday teaching practice to support engagement, learning, and inclusion for all students.

Educators will:

  • Develop an understanding of sensory processing and regulation

  • Recognise how sensory and emotional needs impact learning and behaviour

  • Identify signs of dysregulation and sensory overwhelm in the classroom

  • Build practical strategies to support regulation, participation, and transitions

  • Learn how to create sensory-supportive and inclusive classroom environments

  • Increase confidence supporting students with autism, ADHD, developmental delay, anxiety, and sensory processing differences
